About our Design Process
21cdd and its sister engineering company, Universal DESIGN SCIENCE Engineering (UDESCIE), have been created to fill the need for an Architectural & Engineering (A/E) Design Force that can approach the next generation of infrastructure and utility needs from the point of view that the (architectural) artifact to be designed/built can and must be synonomous with its being its own Zero Emissions transport fuel refinery, power generator for electricity, and waste recycler. Any given project, large or small, must express its own inherent circular economy and amortize itself in service of the same. Said another way: The architecturally aesthetic building, road, parking, shopping mall, urban plan must perform and function simultaneously as a local no emissions, no waste, refinery, power generator, and recycling artifact.
What is Design Think?
Design Think methods are known by certain industry sectors as the process by which one can rapidly deliver an innovation or technology need, application, or solution based on user inputs and feedback mashed up after a highly iteratively design process. Via this process, one has transformed entire corporate cultures to embrace user defined needs as the pathway to a culture of innovation. Design Think methods deliver transformative results, for the consumer, the community, the corporate culture, even the policy maker and national state. Design Think methods can enable entire cultures to embrace much need change, rapidly. These methods have turned around status quo companies such as Proctor & Gamble and Samsung to the degree that they are now leaders in innovation, driving their industries to abide by an ideology that the user experience is paramount, and the consumer's needs must be the lever that empowers innovation and change. We believe Design Think can be used to make cities such as Santiago, Chile, and others throughout our hemisphere, models to the world of how to reduce pollution and health risks to its general population AND within six years or less. We are mega-scale Design Thinkers and in this respect, we apply this well proven process to systems, be they entire urban centers or to a new or old building needing its carbon foot print overhauled as a way to lower its operating costs.♜ |
Why Design Think applied to Land Use and Urban Design?
What happens when Design Think is married to Design Science? Our sister engineering subsidiary embraces Buckminster Fuller´s full definition of Design Science. This implies that it is incumbent on any engineer or designer to consider total full life cycle costs in their use of materials and interface to the ecosystems hosting the product or project of concern. To do so radically alters the design itself. And if the final design, then so too its financials. Tension and compression are key laws of physics that are under utilized to make buildings and even cities go green, save cost, and aethetically inspire. Tensegrity -- a Bucky defined word, can be the key to delivering on next generation land use design. Have your architects explored all avenues, all laws of physics and nanoscale science before the permitting and community approval process? 21st Century Design & Development, with its sister engineering company that bears the name of Design Science, are out to disrupt urban design as we now know it. We do this by combining these two Design ideologies and methodologies, i.e. Design Science and Tensegrity. We believe when fully combined they will prove out that cities can be designed as if the power plant that fuels it, with nobody taking note that their streets, roofs, and building curtain wall are the power generator´s fuel source, for instance. The sun, and the laws of gravitation must be fully optimized for all 21st Century Design & Development projects, globally. Can Design Think processes be applied to land use design and urban planning for the 21st century? 21cdd and UDESCIE have as their Vision, Mission and Goal to apply Design Think to mega-scale and macro engineering & design problems. Sustainable technologies are one thing; how they are integrated to answer the needs of the individual, communities, nation states, and regional cultures they are to serve is another. We take a systems approach to all things needing to go green. Sustainable technologies can and must be design engineered from cradle to grave. Never have the market forces been so in favor of paradigmatic change in the otherwise 150 year old Fossil Fuel Regime that holds back the Gates of Green. We will soon be flooded by solar derived hydrogen transport fuels and electricity. Oil & Gas has been delivering up status quo since reviving itself in the 1950s by floating offshore drilling platforms out to sea. We exist to make a revolutionary global difference, and in short order, via the technologies we have chosen to endorse to bring to market as fully integrated solution sets for making refinery science, buildings, cities, and then regions go clean green, and this via 21st Century Design and Development. There is no other way. People's behaviors must be changed, but not by coercion or Agenda 21 hidden population decrease agendas.
